Facebook and the Prayer Chain!

Recently I've been trying hard to diet as my 45th high school reunion is the end of June...unfortunately I've not been too successful! I certainly don't look like I did when I graduated from high school, or even nursing school! But I guess at 63, I can't expect to be tall, thin and blond....but then I've never been over 5'2", always been a bit stocky as I was, and still to a degree am, a jock. As for blond, I look too washed out so I'm a bit of auburn to cover the gray! With the advent of facebook, at least I know what some of my cohorts from dear old Jackson High School look like...we're older but still gorgeous! Of course, Betha still looks great! So since I haven't been as successful as I wanted on the diet, I'll just hang on to my good lookin' hubby and have a blast!

I had a reminder a few days ago that I am exceedingly blessed...whenever I have a twinge of jealousy (think of Betha and her gorgeous self), I immediately try to stop and think of all the good things in my life! Is life ever perfect? I don't think so, but God doesn't always do what we ask for...He does what's good for us!! There are always a few things I'd like to renegotiate, but God is too busy laughing at my plans to carry on a meaningful dialogue! But like my diet, I persist in telling God all the things I'd like him to help me with in the future...that comes right after praying for all my family and friends and tons of petitions from my facebook friends. So far He's done a great job of taking care of all my family and friends, so I guess He's listening to me, just not letting me sell my house or motor home!! One thing that I am amazed at with prayer, is that facebook has replaced all the old time prayer chain calls! I remember when mother would get a phone call to activate her prayer partners for someone at First Baptist Church in Jackson, TN. Now, my friends just post on facebook that they need special prayers...even God has gotten into the social media network!

This post is sort of a buckshot topic...I'm just jumping around from topic to topic, but I do so love to share all my thoughts...this is better than a diary or a journal, and certainly cheaper than a psychiatrist. Yesterday and today, we opened our pool finally...this is the first time we've done it ourselves...other than the fact that we should have opened it sooner, I think we're getting there. We left it covered until we got back from Florida, so that was 9 months and tons of algae....at least we've got the chlorine level where it needs to be, the pH is better but not great yet, and we've vacuumed tons of dead algae...hopefully in a few days it will be crystal clear and I can get back to water aerobics!

Woody leaves Monday for a week in Chattanooga with his brother...they are riding motorcycles on several road courses around the city. So I'm going to be asking for prayers for their safety on facebook! Let's activate the fb prayer chain! Especially for Woody! Remember, he's supposed to be my arm candy at the reunion.

I'm not sure what else I should share with you today...oh...go see Rock of Ages..it's a feel good movie with great music. You'll come out feeling great. So nite all...have a great weekend!

Friends and Family Time!

One of the nice things about being old is that you have gathered tons of friends over the ages. Whether from family or work or neighborhood or church, it's always fun to get together even if it's been years since you've been face to face! With facebook and classmates.com, it is easy to reconnect with people you've lost touch with over the years. We just had a great weekend with Mike and Janis, Woody's brother and his wife at the Indy 500!  Our friend Cathy and our soon to be new friend, her husband David, are on their way from Raleigh to Chicago with a brief stop at the Edens' B&B! Or in this case B&D&B! Planning a lovely dinner at home to have lots of time for conversation and catching up.

Consider finding old friends and inviting them to come visit! It doesn't have to be fancy, just fun. Even if you haven't seen them in years, you'll love catching up, checking out who has the most wrinkles, and the cutest grandkids. You have more time now that you're retired so use it to reconnect with special people in your life.

And then, of course, there are fun times with grandkids. Off to Florida later this summer for a family vacation on the beach...the only struggle we've had thus far is our lead foot daughter and son-in-law and the slow pokes (that would be us!). I'm just going to be sure that we have the address because I'm too old to drive fast. After that trip, it's off in the RV. The housesitter is ready to guard and protect the house, the lawn and pool service engaged...all we have to do now is pack.  We're going to try to check in with some of our Florida trailer park friends that have headed north for the summer. 

You can collect new friends to go with the old ones whenever you open yourself to the possibility. Have fun this summer and collect some memories and new people to add to your circle of life.

Heading to Facebook!

I've spent two days now trying to get this lovely blog tied into facebook! I did buy a book called Blogging for Dummies but haven't read it yet.  Typical...try to jump through hoops without reading the directions! I've had this blog running for almost 5 years now but just decided to "monetize" it as they say.  In other words, put ads on the blog and pray that someone clicks on them or even better orders something from Amazon and I get money! In the past, the blog has been more to keep our friends up to date on our retirement journey and travels...I'll still do that, but more importantly, I want to share tips for retirement survival with all of you retirees or pending retirees!  So wish me luck and click away!

Fall, Facebook and Fun!

I'm having an identity crisis. I have deserted my blog for facebook! I wonder which I should focus on going forward? Facebook is addictive and real time...just messaged back and forth with my fabulous daughter-in-law. We jot thoughts and activities on a daily basis, and don't even get me started on my farm! Maybe I can do both?

This fall has been busy with some work and lots of play. Between trying to get my yard and flower beds under control, lots of football and a little work, I'm tired. Work has eased up a bit so I've been trying to catch up on things I let slide this summer. I'm not complaining about work...it's allowed me to buy my new TV, and most recently, a Frigidare washer and dryer! Hopefully all the hype about saving energy and water is true. The washer and dryer we had was at least 10-15 years old!! There were some even more fancier ones, but these are black and have a gentle cycle which my old one didn't have so I'm so uptown.

We did a wonderful cruise to Canada on NCL in September. The itinerary was perfect..the ship a bit shabby but the staff were wonderful. We love Peggy's Cove, Sydney and Halifax! If it wasn't cold 10 months out of the year, I could live there! Besides, they have healthcare for all...and it appears that we won't unless Washington can get their act together!

October has been busy already! We went to Olivia's soccer game at Trevecca...she plays for Freed-Hardeman...watched Mississippi State beat MTSU, which made Libby not happy with her dad...cried over our horrid Titans as they are now 0-6....does anyone want any tickets?...and visited with tons of friends. We have to visit lots as we leave again for winter in Florida soon.

Not sure what else to tell you other than I'll work harder to keep you updated on my progress through retirement. I swear I had more time when I was working! and if you're truly a friend...come on over to facebook! I'll still hang out there.
